Last update was prior to our 30th reunion, so while much of it remains accurate, things have changed since 2009. So, here is a new what I've been up to:
After three great adventures: Israel between high school and college; hitchhiking through Western Europe between college and law school; and back packing through Asia and Australia following a judicial clerkship in San Diego, I settled into what I thought would be my law career with a big law firm in San Diego. Then the Berlin Wall came down in November 1989 and the world turned upside down for me.
I moved to Prague in 1992, started a telecom business which kept me in Central Eastern Europe for 9 years, met my wife, married, had two wonderful children, sold the business and came back to San Diego in 2001.
I never intended to practice law again, but given where the telecom industry was in 2001, law suddenly looked attractive again After starting my own firm doing corporate transactional work, an intended place holder until I could find the right opportunity back in buisness, an opportunity to open a branch office of a DC patent firm came up in late 2001. I've been practicing IP and corporate law ever since.
Living in San Diego is the closest thing to paradise as far as I can tell. The next best place is Portugal where we recently purchased an apartment and where we plan to spend 3 to 6 months a year splitting out time between San Diego, Mammoth Lakes, CA and Santa Cruz, Portugal. See you all in April, 2024!
Parking at MHS was never easy especially if you showed up just before home room started. That was me. So one day after circling the lot and not finding a space, I saw an empty one in the front and took it. An hour or so later I got called down to the deans office, I forget his name but he was really nice and had blond hair, and lifted the slats on the shade of this window and asked, "Is that your car?" And I sheepishly admitted it was expecting some serious consequence. Instead he said, "Would you mind moving it? That's Mr. Kohler's spot." I said, "Right away!" And that was that!
